Unlike previous twin screw extruders using vertical injectors, the Wenger TT760 and TT3630 Thermal Twin extruders use angled steam injector ports oriented in the direction of material flow. This allows four times more steam injection into the extrusion zones. In addition, steam is injected into the kneading and folding zones, designed within the unique profile of the screw, allowing steam to mix with the product.

The result is up to 12% steam injection, evenly distributed over the length of the barrel. This translates from thermal energy to mechanical energy ratios of up to 14 to 1, which means lower energy costs, less wear, and less environmental impact.

• An adjustable valve in the middle of the barrel, allows the addition of mechanical energy to meet certain specifications.
• The self-cleaning extruder screws act as a vapor lock to seal the inlet, allowing a high pressure to be generated and therefore a high volume steam escape.
• Thermal Twin options include back pressure valves, a wide variety of dies and all the flexibility available in other Wenger extrusion systems.

Considering that energy demand continues to grow ... at a time when many more environmental restrictions are imposed on power generation companies ... one thing is certain; energy costs are not going to go down anytime soon. Fortunately, the ability to switch your process to a more favorable energy source is one of the greatest attributes of the Thermal Twin (Dual Thermal) extrusion system.
While the average costs for twin-screw technology are 1.5 to 2 times that of a single-screw extruder, the Thermal Twin has very similar operating costs as single-screw technology. Furthermore, drying costs are the same for identical products, since the moisture content is the same in both cases. With Double Thermal technology, steam simply replaces the water process.
