Brazil, Mexico and Argentina continue to concentrate the largest markets in Latin America in terms of production and consumption. However, when the analysis incorporates indicators such as consumption growth and demand evolution, countries such as Colombia, Peru and Ecuador begin to occupy strategic positions on the industry's radar.
This change in perspective reinforces a trend observed across different sectors of the economy. While mature markets remain fundamental because of the scale they offer, developing markets can represent more attractive opportunities for new investments and regional expansion.
So, where are the greatest growth opportunities in Latin America?
Answering this question requires looking beyond market size.

The analysis by All Pet Food Market Insights shows that Brazil remains the region's undisputed leader, with apparent local consumption of 4,042.4 thousand tonnes in 2025. Despite the size of the market, consumption grew 1.4% compared with 2024, a pattern characteristic of consolidated and highly competitive markets.
Mexico ranks second, with a market of 1,697.8 thousand tonnes consumed in 2025. Compared with the previous year, consumption increased by 2.2%, maintaining a balance between scale and expansion.
In Argentina, apparent local consumption reached 1,057.0 thousand tonnes in 2025. Compared with 2024, the market grew 0.6%. Although its evolution is more moderate, the country continues to hold a strategic position thanks to its industrial capacity, production tradition and relevance to regional trade in companion animal food.
At first glance, these figures could lead to the conclusion that the best opportunities remain concentrated in the largest markets. However, the study reveals a different scenario.
Chile occupies an intermediate position within the Latin American market. With apparent local consumption of 776.3 thousand tonnes in 2025, the country recorded growth of 2.6% compared with the previous year. It also stands out for its high per capita pet food consumption, a factor that supports the development of premium categories and higher value-added products.
Meanwhile, other markets are beginning to stand out precisely because of their growth rate.
Colombia, for example, combines an estimated market of 700.0 thousand tonnes with 4% growth compared with 2024, positioning the country among those that best balance market size and expansion potential.
Peru and Ecuador present a different scenario. Although they have smaller markets, estimated at 382.1 thousand tonnes and 400.5 thousand tonnes, respectively, they recorded the highest growth rates in the study compared with 2024. 11.4% for Peru and 27.3% for Ecuador.
More than a matter of volume, these results reflect markets that are still undergoing consolidation, with room to expand supply, attract new manufacturers, and strengthen higher value-added categories.
Growth and maturity move at different speeds
The data also highlights another important aspect of decision-making in the pet food industry. Growth and maturity do not necessarily move together.
Consolidated markets such as Brazil and Mexico tend to offer greater predictability, developed infrastructure and a high level of professionalization. On the other hand, they also face more intense competition and slower growth.
Developing economies such as Colombia, Peru and Ecuador may offer a more favorable environment for new investments, particularly when pet population growth, rising income and changing consumption habits drive demand for industrialized food and premium products.
Therefore, analyzing only the size of a market can lead to incomplete interpretations of its true potential.
Market intelligence as a strategic tool
Beyond identifying which countries concentrate on the largest pet food consumption, understanding the structural differences between markets has become a competitive advantage for manufacturers, suppliers and investors.
The All Pet Food Market Insights study demonstrates that indicators such as projected growth, competitiveness, production structure, trade flows and consumption profile provide a broader view of the opportunities available across the region.

In an increasingly dynamic Latin American market, strategic decisions will depend less on the size of a country and more on the ability to interpret the signals that indicate where the best growth opportunities are.
